Mike Sexton feels that the biggest issue
always facing every county is the budget.
This is especially true for Union County
right now. Most people know that a new
school and additional jail space is going to
be required over the next few years. Failure
to plan ahead for these projects will, Mike
believes, result in a crisis in the near
future and a huge tax increase. As a county
commissioner, he plans to look for ways to
be more efficient and cost-effective so that
Union County will be better prepared to meet
these challenges.
Mike thinks that if you look at Halls
Crossroads today, you are looking at what
Maynardville will look like in the future.
This may make you smile or it may make you
cringe but it’s coming. We can only speed it
along or slow it down, but it can’t be
stopped.
His strength lies in his ability to organize
and to see the big picture. He says that he
is “one of the most tight-fisted people with
a dollar you will ever know” and will not
lose sight of the fact that every dollar
that the county commission spends is a
dollar that someone had to go out and work
for.
As a member of the U.S. Navy, he was
stationed onboard the USS Richard E. Byrd.
Mike and his wife have been married since
1998, and live in the home they built on
Satterfield Rd.
