Gary England, Chairman of the County
Commission, firmly believes that Union
County is headed in a very positive
direction. “Yes, there are some tough
issues that are facing us right now and we
will have some even tougher issues over the
next 4 years, but we have people who are
levelheaded enough that we can deal with it
and we will continue to move forward.” A
good leader provides guidance and direction
and keeps an open mind. Mr. England says
that he does not try to persuade anyone to
vote one way or another. He learned the hard
way about keeping an open mind when he made
a decision before a meeting, heard facts
that did not support his decision and then
had to change his mind. “I’m honest -
anybody who knows me will tell you that,”
said Mr. England. He continues to be active
in the community and has served with the
Rescue Squad since 1986 (inactive now),
United Way, March of Dimes, Toys for Tots,
and American Cancer Society any way that he
can. Mr. England and his wife Diane (Dyer)
England restore and show Cameros - they have
6 they are working on now and one that they
show.
