Commissioner R. L. Jones
District 6

R.L. Jones
6th District of Union County
Maynardville, TN
(865) 992-8413
As someone who has served his community as a
county commissioner for 28 years, R.L. Jones
has the experience to know that there are a
lot of challenges facing this county and no
easy answers. He is acutely aware that many
of the residents here live at or below
poverty level and on fixed incomes and he
works diligently to spend the citizen’s
money wisely. “I’ve always believed in
living within one’s means,” said R.L. “And
as a county we have to live within our
budget.” It is his policy to listen to the
residents of the 6th district and
to solve any problem that they might have.
He believes that he always keeps the
people’s best interest at heart. Strong
leadership and years of experience are two
of the primary skills that he brings to
county commission.
Commissioner Jones has been married to his
wife Betty for 38 years. They have a
daughter and son-in-law (Melissa and Mark
Fugate), a grandson Drew Fugate and a son
Michael Shane Jones. Throughout the years,
he has enjoyed watching Union County
youngsters play basketball, football and
baseball and now, another generation later,
he really enjoys watching grandson Drew play
ball, too.
R.L. served his country in
the U.S. Army and is a Vietnam veteran. And
he has served his community through his
participation in service organizations such
as the J.C. Baker Lodge and, over the years,
with many county commission committees. R.L.
believes that it is important for Union
County to progress and neither stagnate nor
go backwards - and that he has the proven
leadership skills and experience to help
guide the county through these challenging
times
