Union County FREE CPR Saturday: March 3, 2007
Ten-county event sponsored by Rinker Materials, WBIR-TV, and
Star 102.1 FM
Knoxville
– The Knoxville Area Chapter of the American Red Cross, in
conjunction with Rinker Materials, WBIR-TV and Star 102.1
FM, is holding its annual FREE CPR Saturday on March 3rd at
ten different locations throughout East Tennessee. The
training begins at 9 am and lasts until 12:30 pm at all
locations. The Union County location will be the Union
County Optimist Club, located at 3620 Maynardville Highway
(next to Subway) in Maynardville.
"This
free training is a gift we offer the community because we
know that having at least one person in every household who
knows CPR makes our community safer," said Red Cross Health
and Safety Director Peggi Stahr. "It's one of the steps for
preparedness everyone should take in order to respond to any
kind of emergency."
"You
never know when you are going to be in a situation to save a
friend or a loved one from choking or responding if their
heart stops," continued Stahr "This is your chance to make
sure you know what to do."
The
Knoxville Area Chapter, which has held free one-day CPR
classes annually for the past 12 years, hopes to provide
training for over 800 individuals during the one-day event.
Although the free training is targeted to those who may not
have the resources to attend a fee-based class, including
low-income families, seniors and college students,
registration is open to anyone. Pre-registration is
required, however, to ensure that enough supplies and enough
instructors will be available. "This event was
created to promote CPR training and to reach people we would
not ordinarily reach," said Stahr.
CPR and
first aid training are offered by the American Red Cross
year-round in day, evening, and weekend sessions. To
pre-register for FREE CPR Saturday, to register for a class
in advance, or for a list of all ten locations throughout
the area, visit our web site at
www.knoxarc.org or call 865-584-2999.
