Dr. Finger Lectures at Roy Acuff Union Museum and Library

The Roy Acuff Union Museum and Library was delighted to host a visit by Dr. John Finger, Professor Emeritus, Department of History, University of Tennessee Knoxville on Tuesday, November 22, 2005. Dr. Finger talked about land use in the United States and the Area of Union County which was once part of Hawkins County, North Carolina.  He has published three books, twenty-eight articles, and numerous essays on the subject.
His lecture, lasting approximately one-half hour, was scheduled at 12:00 noon so everyone could bring and enjoy lunch while he spoke.  Over twenty Union Countians attended as well as the sponsoring partner Humanities Tennessee from Nashville, Tennessee.

Two additional lectures are scheduled:

Thursday, December 8th, 12:00 noon with Dr. Fran Ansley, Professor of Law, University of Tennessee, Knoxville.  Dr. Ansley will be talking about the history of immigration and land borders between the United States, Mexico and Canada.

These lectures are open to the public – everyone is invited.

The Roy Acuff Union Museum and Library was chosen as one of six museums in the state of Tennessee to host the Smithsonian Institute Museum's on Main Street exhibit "Between Fences" opening in December 2006. While the exhibit is a year away from opening, the festivities have already started. This is a great honor for Union County.
